Assuring Food Security in Developing Countries under the Challenges of Climate

— sector: Agriculture
— theme: Environment and climate
— country: Global

This is a discussion paper from Untied Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), published in February 2011, authored by Ulrich Hoffmann. In short, the paper argues that for a large number of developing countries, agriculture remains the single most important sector. Climate change has potential to damage irreversibly the natural resource base on which agriculture depends, with grave consequences for food security. But agriculture is also the sector that has the potential to transcend from being a problem to becoming an essential part of the solution to climate change, but this will require further efforts.
