Unions succeed in bringing global fight for environmental protection to UN labour body

Many years of awareness raising and activism across the labour movement and three intense weeks of negotiations with employers and governments produced a first ever agreement on environmental issues at the 102 session of the Internatinoal Labour Conference (ILC) of the International Labour Organisation, last month in Geneva, Switzerland.

No sustainable development without environmental sustainability and decent work

Geneva, 19 June 2013 – For the first time in the ILO’s near century-long history, governments’, workers’ and employers’ delegates have agreed on a strong common vision and key guiding principles to achieve a just transition to a greener economy. The contribution of the world of work to the greening of the economy is critical – and presents a real opportunity – to realize the ILO’s social goals, concludes the ILC Committee on Sustainable Development, Decent Work and Green Jobs.

Call for environmentally sustainable quality jobs

"The Ministry of Labour and Transport Management (MOLTM) and the International Labour Organization (ILO) on Thursday jointly held a one-day national conference titled ‘Climate Change and Green Jobs’ in the capital, with ILO constituents looking into various aspects of the promotion of green jobs in Nepal."
