16 May 2013 - The rising unemployment rate....can be mitigated by generating green jobs from the transition to a low carbon economy, to an economy that develops qualitatively without impacting the environment, to grow moderately without destroying the basic ecosystem services, whose agenda is found in the ethical values ​​contained in the ideals of sustainable development, protecting the flora and fauna, reducing the consumption of natural resources, energy and water.

New impulses for sustainable tourism

Hendrik Wintjen, mascontour, Berlin/Germany, 30 April 2013 - Participants at the Global Partnership for Sustainable Tourism discussed the opportunities and problems arising from this sector in Bonn, Germany, in late March 2013. The symposium aimed at opening up prospects for sustainable tourism, focusing on three special topics: (i) Tourism growth: sustainable, green, inclusive?, (ii) Biodiversity and sustainable tourism, and (iii) Private sector: Performance and accountability in resource efficiency and sustainability.

Making Our Communities More Liveable: Examples from Germany and Scandinavia

An increasing number of community policy makers, planners and residents around the world want their communities —neighborhoods, villages, towns and cities— to be more liveable. Liveable communities provide residents with opportunities to enjoy a high quality of life by preserving or improving the quality of their environment, enabling them to live in a variety of housing options, and by making it possible for them to walk, bike or take public transportation to go to the places they most frequently need to go every day, such as work, schools, grocery stores, shopping malls, parks, recreational areas and health facilities.
