Maldives eyes $100 mln tourist tax for CO2 plan

AlertNet, Nina Chestney, 7 July 2012 - A voluntary tax on tourists who visit the luxury resorts and white sands of the Maldives could raise up to $100 million a year towards the country's aim to become carbon neutral by 2020, President Mohamed Waheed said.

China Daily: Green economy drive to deliver $315b in energy-saving investment

China's ambition to shift to a greener economy is expected to provide more than 2 trillion yuan ($315 billion) in investment opportunities over the next five years for the country's burgeoning energy-saving sector.

Rio+20 Voluntary Commitments

The Rio+20 Secretariat, together with the UN Global Compact and the Sustainable Energy for All initiative, has received over 700 Rio+20 voluntary commitments. These commitments were made by all stakeholders, including governments, UN system & IGOs, the private sector, civil society and NGOs. Collectively, these tangible commitments mobilize more than $500 billion in actions towards sustainable development.
