Brunei and the environment

Borneo Bulletin - September 17, 2011. In the article "Brunei committed to protecting the environment" the efforts from the Government to protect the environment are being discussed. "The Government of Brunei Darussalam is committed to protect the environment and over the years the country's institutional and legal foundation on environmental management and police are improving."

Excerpt from article;

"Brunei's commitment in environment conservation was raised by Awg Hj Md Rozan bin Dato Paduka Hj Md Yunos, Brunei's Permanent Secretary of Development (Administration and Finance) during his opening remark as the chairperson of the East Asia Summit Officials Meeting for the 3rd East Asia Summit Environment Ministers Meeting yesterday.

Awg Hj Md Rozan said, "We know that environmental pollution does not have physical boundary thereby environmental protection and conservation require concerted efforts from all levels of society - locally, regionally and internationally. An integrated, concerted and coordinated approach from us is required to protect our environment."

The chairperson also said, "The Government of Brunei Darussalam is committed to protect our environment and over the years institutional and legal foundations on environmental management and its policies are improving. It is our intention to conserve the environment and natural heritage with a view to have an environment unspoiled for the future generations."

Earlier in his speech, Awg Hj Md Rozan highlighted the positive development from the meeting by saying, "The progress we achieved would not have been possible without the strong spirit of cooperation and solidarity that have been embraced and practiced by Asean and our partners. Cooperation and Collaboration between Asean and our partners are paramount to the achievement of a clean and green environment in our region.""
