ILO ROAP at the Asia Pacific Climate Week & the High Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development 2021

The week of 6-13 July the ILO participated in six sessions at the Asia-Pacific Climate Week and the High Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development. These webinars represent a step towards the 26th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26), which will be hosted by Glasgow from 31 October – 12 November 2021.

The level of the ILO's participation in Asia Pacific Climate Week and the High Level Political Forum reflects the significant contributions that the ILO has already made and is continuing to make towards greening employment and helping to support a Just Transition to environmentally sustainable communities for all," says Dr Cristina Martinez, the ILO's Senior Specialist of Environment and Decent Work and Asia-Pacific Coordinator of Green Jobs & Just Transition.

The sessions featured examples and evidence from the Climate Action 4 Jobs Initiative, Just Energy Transition, Green Jobs Policy Readiness in ASEAN, and Just Transition-SDGs in garment supply chains. Detailed summaries as well as the recordings for most of the sessions can be found here (link to summary document when online).

In addition, many of the sessions were held in partnership with other UN agencies such as UNESCAP-UNEP-UNFCCC (IBC Coal-Phase-Out), UNDP as well as member countries and other partners such as ASEAN, ADB, EBRD, ITUC, IGES, WEF, AGORA, and MSFA . These signifcant collaboration and cross-agency coordination emphasize the benefits of the One-UN strategy.
